Anigozanthos ‘Landscape Tall Rosie Red’

Family: Haemodoraceae
Common Name: Tall Rosie Red Kangaroo Paw
Origin: Hybrid selection from Western Australian species; bred for height, durability, and rich rose-red coloration

Description:

‘Landscape Tall Rosie Red’ is a robust, tall-growing Kangaroo Paw that produces dense clumps of arching, strappy foliage topped with long, branching flower stems. The velvety tubular flowers open in deep rose-red tones with a soft sheen, glowing in the sun and attracting hummingbirds throughout the warm months. Mature plants typically reach 24–36 in (60–90 cm) in leaf, with flowering stems rising up to 5–6 ft (1.5–1.8 m).

This variety was specifically bred for landscape use — offering strong disease resistance, exceptional re-blooming performance, and a bold, upright habit. It thrives in sunny, low-water gardens and maintains vivid color and clean foliage in a variety of climates.

Climate & Hardiness:

  • Zones: USDA 9–11
  • Temperature: Prefers 60–90 °F (16–32 °C); protect from frost below 30 °F (–1 °C)
  • Sunlight: Full sun for best flowering, color, and compact growth
  • Humidity: Tolerates dry to moderate humidity with good airflow

Planting & Care Tips:

  • Soil: Well-draining sandy or gravelly soil; avoid heavy clay or waterlogged conditions
  • Watering: Moderate water needs; water regularly during establishment, then allow surface soil to dry between irrigations
  • Fertilization: Feed every 6–8 weeks with a low-phosphorus fertilizer during the growing season
  • Maintenance: Remove spent flower stems to encourage re-blooming; prune old leaves in late winter to maintain a tidy appearance
  • Pests / Resistance: Drought-tolerant, deer-resistant, and bred for strong ink spot disease resistance
