Musa ‘Goldfinger’

Family: Musaceae
Common Name: Goldfinger Banana
Origin: Hybrid developed by the Honduran Foundation for Agricultural Research (FHIA); bred for taste, vigor, and disease resistance

Description:

Musa ‘Goldfinger’ is a vigorous, mid-sized banana cultivar prized for its exceptional fruit quality and strong disease tolerance. Plants typically reach 8–10 ft (2.4–3 m) tall and produce sturdy, wind-resistant pseudostems with broad green leaves. The fruit is medium-sized with a slightly tangy, apple-like sweetness — excellent eaten fresh or cooked.

This variety was bred to combine the rich flavor of dessert bananas with the hardiness of plantain types. It’s tolerant of cooler temperatures, highly productive, and resistant to Panama disease and other common banana pathogens, making it one of the best choices for both home gardens and small-scale tropical orchards.
