Agave ‘Blue Glow’

Price range: $0.75 through $1.85

Agave ‘Blue Glow’ (Rancho Tissue Original)
Family: Asparagaceae (Agavoideae)
Common Name: Blue Glow Agave
Origin: Hybrid selection – Rancho Tissue Technologies exclusive clone
Description:
Agave ‘Blue Glow’ is a compact and stunning hybrid agave featuring solitary, symmetrical rosettes with an otherworldly glow. Rancho Tissue’s exclusive selection stands apart from standard ‘Blue Glow’ forms—most notably in its distinctive margin coloration. While others display a yellow stripe, this version maintains clean, red-edged foliage without the yellow margin, creating a cooler, sleeker aesthetic.

Each leaf is a narrow blade of deep blue-green, measuring 1 to 1.5 inches wide and about 1 foot long, edged in brilliant crimson. The rosette slowly matures to approximately 18 inches tall by 2 feet wide, forming a sculptural, symmetrical presence ideal for containers, small-scale designs, or architectural planting schemes. As a non-offsetting cultivar, it retains its shape and visual clarity throughout its lifespan.

Climate & Hardiness:

  • Zones: USDA 9–11
  • Cold Hardiness: Tolerates down to ~20°F (-6.6°C) with good drainage
  • Sunlight: Full sun to partial shade; enhanced color in brighter light
  • Heat Tolerance: Excellent, especially in arid and Mediterranean climates
  • Humidity: Moderate; avoid prolonged dampness at crown

Planting & Care Tips:

  • Soil: Needs fast-draining soil; avoid wet conditions in winter
  • Watering: Low; water deeply but infrequently
  • Growth Rate: Slow to moderate
  • Maintenance: Very low; clean lower leaves occasionally
  • Container Use: Excellent for modern pots, succulent groupings, or patios
