Family: Asphodelaceae
Common Name: Tangerine Aloe
Origin: Hybrid of Aloe ferox × Aloe arborescens; propagated via tissue culture at Rancho Tissue Technologies

Description:

‘Tangerine’ is a bold hybrid that blends the best traits of its parents—*Aloe ferox* (Cape Aloe) and *Aloe arborescens* (Torch Aloe). It forms large rosettes of broad, fleshy green leaves with spined margins, creating an architectural presence in the landscape.

In bloom, it produces tall, branched inflorescences packed with brilliant tangerine-orange tubular flowers that stand well above the foliage, providing a stunning seasonal display and attracting pollinators such as hummingbirds.

Climate & Hardiness:

  • Zones: USDA 9–11
  • Cold Tolerance: To ~25 °F (-4 °C) when established; protect from hard frost
  • Light: Full sun to light shade; strongest color and flowering in full sun

Planting & Care Tips:

  • Size: Large—eventually forming clumps 4–6 ft (1.2–1.8 m) tall and wide
  • Soil: Needs sandy, rocky, or fast-draining mix
  • Watering: Drought-tolerant once established; occasional deep watering improves flowering
  • Maintenance: Low; remove spent flower stalks and lower leaves as needed
