Aloe hybrid ‘Silver Star’ (aka ‘Guido’)

Family: Asphodelaceae
Origin: Hybrid by Kelly Griffin (Retro Succulents® line); propagated via tissue culture at Rancho Tissue Technologies

Description:

A petite yet visually exotic aloe, ‘Silver Star’ forms tight rosettes (~6–8 in / 15–20 cm). Its foliage is pale green, laced with creamy-white dash-like markings and softly fringed edges, often flushing to pink or brown in bright light. During summer through fall, delicate coral-to-salmon bell-shaped flowers rise gracefully above the foliage.

Climate & Hardiness:

  • Zones: USDA 9b–11b
  • Cold Tolerance: Down to ~25 °F (–4 °C); frost-sensitive.
  • Light: Full sun to bright filtered light; avoid prolonged intense heat exposure.

Planting & Care Tips:

  • Size: Compact—rosette ~6–8 in (15–20 cm) tall and wide.
  • Soil: Requires extremely well-draining, sandy or gritty mix.
  • Watering: Low—allow the soil to dry thoroughly between waterings.
  • Versatility: Ideal for containers, rock gardens, and indoor succulent collections.
