Aloe plicatilis (Fan Aloe)
Family: Asphodelaceae
Common Name: Fan Aloe
Origin: Endemic to the Cape Fold Mountains of South Africa; propagated via tissue culture at Rancho Tissue Technologies
Description:
Aloe plicatilis, commonly called the Fan Aloe, is a unique, tree-like aloe distinguished by its upright branches, each tipped with paired rows of strap-like leaves arranged in a distinctive fan shape. The glaucous blue-green leaves are smooth-edged and flexible, creating a striking architectural form unlike any other aloe.
In late winter to spring, mature plants produce clusters of tubular, bright red flowers that rise just above the foliage fans—highly attractive to pollinators and a vivid contrast to the silvery leaves.
