Aloe sinkatana × marlothii ‘Parking Lot Aloe’

Family: Asphodelaceae
Common Name: Parking Lot Aloe
Origin: Hybrid of Aloe sinkatana × Aloe marlothii; introduced by Rancho Tissue Technologies

Description:

‘Parking Lot Aloe’ is a hardy new hybrid designed for durability and bold presence. It combines the rugged stature of A. marlothii (Mountain Aloe) with the clumping vigor of A. sinkatana, resulting in a medium-sized aloe with broad, fleshy green leaves edged in firm teeth. Rosettes form sturdy clumps, making it an excellent landscape workhorse where resilience is key.

Seasonal flower stalks rise above the foliage with clusters of bright orange-red tubular blooms that attract pollinators and add seasonal color to mass plantings.

Climate & Hardiness:

  • Zones: USDA 9–11
  • Cold Tolerance: To ~25 °F (-4 °C) once established
  • Light: Full sun preferred for strongest growth and flowering
  • Heat Tolerance: Excellent; thrives in exposed, hot landscapes

Planting & Care Tips:

  • Size: Medium—generally 2–3 ft (60–90 cm) tall and wide
  • Soil: Prefers sandy or rocky, well-draining soil
  • Watering: Drought-tolerant; water deeply but infrequently
  • Maintenance: Minimal; remove spent flower stalks and occasional dead leaves
