Aloe striata ‘Pink Rim’

Price range: $0.65 through $1.60

Aloe striata ‘Pink Rim’

Family: Asphodelaceae
Common Name: Pink Rim Coral Aloe
Origin: Selection of Aloe striata (South Africa); propagated via tissue culture at Rancho Tissue Technologies

Description:

‘Pink Rim’ is a refined selection of the popular Coral Aloe, chosen for its smooth, broad blue-green leaves edged with a soft pink margin. Unlike many aloes, the leaves are spineless—making it a friendlier choice for high-traffic landscapes and family gardens. Under strong light or drought stress, the pink edging becomes more pronounced, adding seasonal interest.

In late winter to early spring, mature plants send up branched stalks of vibrant coral-orange tubular flowers, a brilliant contrast to the cool-toned foliage and a magnet for hummingbirds and pollinators.

Climate & Hardiness:

  • Zones: USDA 9–11
  • Cold Tolerance: To ~25–30 °F (-4 to -1 °C); protect from hard frost
  • Light: Full sun to light shade; pink rim intensifies in strong light

Planting & Care Tips:

  • Size: Medium rosette—typically 18–24 in (45–60 cm) tall and wide
  • Soil: Requires well-draining, sandy or rocky mix
  • Watering: Low to moderate; water deeply but infrequently, allowing soil to dry
  • Maintenance: Remove old flower stalks to keep rosettes clean
