Anigozanthos ‘Bush Nugget’

Family: Haemodoraceae
Common Name: Bush Nugget Kangaroo Paw
Origin: Hybrid selection from Western Australian species; bred for compact size, strong disease resistance, and brilliant yellow blooms

Description:

‘Bush Nugget’ is a standout compact Kangaroo Paw that produces masses of bright golden-yellow, velvety flowers on short, sturdy stems. Plants form dense, grassy clumps of narrow green leaves reaching about 12–18 in (30–45 cm) tall, with flowering stems extending to roughly 24 in (60 cm). The vibrant blooms appear from spring through fall, providing months of consistent color and attracting hummingbirds and pollinators.

This variety is one of the most reliable performers in the Bush series, offering excellent disease resistance and durability under a wide range of landscape conditions. Its petite stature and heavy flowering habit make it ideal for containers, low borders, and commercial plantings.

Climate & Hardiness:

  • Zones: USDA 9–11
  • Temperature: Prefers 60–90 °F (16–32 °C); protect from frost below 30 °F (–1 °C)
  • Sunlight: Full sun for best color, compact growth, and flowering
  • Humidity: Performs well in low to moderate humidity with good airflow

Planting & Care Tips:

  • Soil: Well-draining sandy or gravelly soil; avoid heavy or waterlogged conditions
  • Watering: Moderate water needs; water regularly during active growth, allowing soil surface to dry slightly between waterings
  • Fertilization: Feed every 6–8 weeks with a low-phosphorus fertilizer during flowering season
  • Maintenance: Remove spent flower stems after blooming and prune old foliage in late winter to promote fresh growth
  • Pests / Resistance: Drought-tolerant, deer-resistant, and bred for superior ink spot disease resistance
