Agave weberi

Price range: $0.70 through $1.85

Agave weberi
Family: Asparagaceae (Agavoideae)
Common Name: Weber Agave
Origin: Mexico and the southern U.S.; widely cultivated form
Description:
Agave weberi is a bold, broad-leaved species prized for its graceful silhouette and lush, tropical-like presence. This stemless agave forms large, rosette-shaped clumps with wide, gray-green leaves that can reach up to 2.5 feet long and 8 inches across. Unlike many agaves, the leaf margins are smooth—free of teeth—offering a softer, more inviting look while retaining a sharp dark terminal spine at the tip.

Naturally offsetting, *A. weberi* produces new rosettes around its base, making it an excellent choice for mass plantings or to fill open space in arid gardens. Its large size and low-maintenance habit make it a favorite in large-scale xeriscapes, estate gardens, and public installations.

Climate & Hardiness:

  • Zones: USDA 9–11
  • Cold Hardiness: Hardy to around 20°F (-6.7°C)
  • Sunlight: Full sun preferred; tolerates light shade in extreme heat
  • Heat Tolerance: Excellent; thrives in desert and subtropical settings
  • Humidity: Adaptable; best performance in dry to moderate climates

Planting & Care Tips:

  • Soil: Requires well-draining soil; sandy or rocky mix ideal
  • Watering: Low; drought-tolerant once established
  • Growth Rate: Moderate to fast under ideal conditions
  • Maintenance: Minimal; remove spent leaves and control offsets if needed
  • Container Use: Best used in-ground due to size; can be container-grown when young
